How are you, Ashley?
I pray this message finds you and your family in good health. While we are all home practicing “social distancing” I want to share my appreciation for the health professionals and first responders that are keeping us safe. I also want to acknowledge those unsung heroes that are growing and delivering our food, trying to keep our shelves full at the grocery stores, as well as our public officials in the region and across the country that are at the forefront. I have never been more proud to call Seattle home.
The Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle team has not flinched as we face this deadly giant together as a city, region, and nation. We stand firmly next to our neighbors and friends providing necessary resources to ensure that those most in need still feel seen, valued, and protected through these times of uncertainty. Below is a brief list of what we have been up to the last few weeks.
Modified Hours of Operation
Our work is considered as essential services. Though we are not a hospital, we are, and will remain, open to those in need. Our new hours of operation are Monday – Friday from 10:00AM – 3:00PM.
Walk-ins are welcome; however, we would like to encourage clients to call (206) 461-3792 then press 0 to make an appointment for more efficient service. If you are sick, or exhibiting signs of illness, please stay home. We will gladly work with you as best we can via phone!
COVID-19 Resource & Response Guide
We’ve collected a wealth of information regarding COVID-19 updates and resources for our community. This includes information about food resources, our most recent public health orders, unemployment information, family and household assistance opportunities and more. You can access it via this link:
Putting Our Youth First
Our education team has been hard at work reaching out to and supporting our young people. Now more than ever, our young people need to know that someone is there for them. The team has delivered food, laptops, and other services to continue the learning and motivation of the young people in our programs. In addition, we continue to host group meetings virtually, have one on one calls, and encourage them to stay in touch with each other.
Transportation Assistance
We've partnered with our friends at Lyft to make sure transportation assistance remains accessible for those who may be in need of food, essential services, and/or a way to get to and from work. Anyone in need of transportation can simply head to our homepage or click this link to request a Lyft credit of $25. These credits will expire by the end of the month, so please spread the word to your networks!
Our hearts go out to all those that have experienced this virus first hand through the loss of a loved one or forced to nurse themselves back to health at home alone. This is a moment we will never forget. If there is anything else we can do, assist with, or join in to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and make sure our most vulnerable are taken care of, please let us know! Together, we've got this! More updates to come!
Yours in the Movement,
Michelle
